What is a Vision Board and Why Does it Work?

What the heck is a vision board? 

Vision boards are tools you create to manifest goals no matter what area of your life it may be for: relationships, family, friends, career, vacation, etc. What it does is helps you concentrate and focus on what you want to accomplish with a life goal you have. 

You might have already made a vision board in your life without even realizing it. Think of it as thoughtful crafting. You’re piecing together what you want to see manifest in your life using a combination of images, quotes, etc. 

It’s easy to say “I want ______ to happen in my life” but by using a vision board, what you’re doing is providing more structure to what that looks like; you are giving yourself more clarity.

Why do vision boards work though?

Buckle up because we’re going to fill you in on the law of attraction and how that applies to vision boards.

GreaterMinds explains that “the Law of Attraction is the ability to attract into our lives whatever we are focusing on. It is believed that regardless of age, nationality or religious belief, we are all susceptible to the laws which govern the Universe, including the Law of Attraction. It is the Law of Attraction which uses the power of the mind to translate whatever is in our thoughts and materialize them into reality. In basic terms, all thoughts turn into things eventually. If you focus on negative doom and gloom you will remain under that cloud. If you focus on positive thoughts and have goals that you aim to achieve you will find a way to achieve them with massive action.”

By using a vision board, what you are doing is taking the concept of the Law of Attraction and giving it a vessel, a body, a physical form that you can look at and meditate on every day to bring you one step closer (and motivate you more) to make your dreams, interests, and desires happen. And vision boards have been around for a long time, too, and supported by many people you know!

You might actually be familiar with “vision boards” as “dream boards”. They are one-in-the-same, and some of the most influential people use them! We’re talking about people like Oprah Winfrey, and before passing, Octavia Butler used vision boards as well.

Vision boards are especially popular with small businesses. Here are some fantastic statistics shared by Forbes from a survey about vision boards:

• Almost two-thirds of small business owners believe that visualizing goals helps them map and develop their business plans.
• One in five small business owners used a vision board or other visual representation when starting their business; 76% of those business owners said that today their business is where they envisioned it would be when they started it.
• Eighty-two percent of small business owners that used a vision board from the get-go reported that they have accomplished more than half the goals they included on that board.
