5 Self Care Ideas To Help You Reconnect With Yourself

5 Self Care Ideas To Help You Reconnect With Yourself

When your time is mostly spent making sure that others - friends, family, colleagues - are doing okay and feeling good about themselves, you fall into the background like a wallflower.

Yes! Be present for those who need it.

No! Don’t do it at the expense of yourself.

The time that you put into the relationships you have with others and the effort you put into taking care of others needs to be balanced with your own needs. If you don’t have a balance, you’re likely to experience…

  • Depression
  • Lack of confidence
  • Hindered self-esteem
  • Low energy
  • Stress
  • Exhaustion

These things work to disconnect you from your true, fabulous self. The great news is that it can be undone and you can reconnect with yourself through various ways including self care. Here are some ideas to get you started!

When you feel disconnected from yourself, try these self care ideas!

Note: These self care ideas are organized in our recommended order.

1. Reschedule plans that can wait.

Reconnecting with yourself starts with cutting down on plans that are filling up your plate. These plans can take the form of the Happy Hour Zoom calls you’ve scheduled with your friends, projects or tasks that need to be completed at home, and more.

If the plan can afford to wait - we know you can’t reschedule work - reschedule it! You need to free up your mind and give yourself some room to breathe.

2. Pamper yourself.

Draw a hot bath or take a hot shower and allow yourself to reset. These temperatures relax your muscles, relieve tension, and helps you sleep better. Not only that but these moments are yours and yours alone that can remove the fog and offer more clarity and space to think. That’s why long showers are so amazing!

3. Activate your senses.

Each sense functions differently and communicates different information to the mind. When you’ve been at home for so long, it might seem more difficult to relax in an environment you should already feel accustomed to, but the key is to offer something different to your senses. Before you move on to the next self care idea, pull out your essential oils, light some candles, or load up a diffuser or wax warmer and allow aromatherapy to refresh your mind.

4. Go through old photo albums and favorite memories that stick out to you most.

When we say “go through old photo albums”, we mean go as far back as you can. This self care idea relies on self reflection, so as you browse through these photos, think about who you were then and who you’ve become now. You need to remember where you started and how you got to where you are.

5. Write an introduction to yourself and a love letter to yourself.

Let all the previous self care actions sink in. Grab a cup of your favorite warm beverage and sit down to write an introduction to yourself. Pretend you’re meeting someone for the first time and crank out two paragraphs. Once you’ve done that, move on to the ‘Write A Love Letter To Yourself’ page in the Self Care Planner

PRO-TIP: When you’re writing for self-reflection, avoid using electronic devices if you can. The act of writing with pen and paper is a more mindful process and can yield more sufficient results.

Once you’ve completed all these steps, work on planning daily self care for yourself. You can get started with the help of the Self Care Planner from Shop Lovet Agency.
