5 Habits to Help You Start Your Day Off Right

Nowadays, it feels like it’s a flip of a coin when it comes to how our day is going to go. Is it going to be good? Bad? It shouldn’t have to be like that. Unless there are unique situations in play, we have the ability to make sure our day starts off on the right foot. The way you start your day can influence your state of mind for the rest of the day. 

The heavy-hitting question here though is how do we start the day off right. The how might vary from person to person since we’re all wired differently, but there are common areas you can tackle. In this blog post, we’ve curated some tips to help you start your day off right! 

5 Habits to Help You Start Your Day Off Right

HABIT #1 ✅Don’t reach for your phone when you wake up.

In our years of building careers for ourselves, one extremely helpful piece of advice we’ve received was to avoid any sort of screen time with phones, computers, etc. for 30 minutes to 1 hour after waking up. We dug up some backed bullet points from Medium who covered why you shouldn’t check your phone for at least 1 hour after waking up. Those reasons include:

  • Looking at your phone that soon after waking up can promote stress and anxiety
  • Your time and attention are hijacked
  • You set your brain up to be easily distracted the rest of the day

HABIT #2 ✅Follow a healthy grooming routine.

Especially now that there’s still a lot of us working from home, it might be easy to just wake up and work from bed and forget the basics….like brushing your teeth, washing your face, showering, etc. Don’t let your body be tricked into thinking it’s the weekend. Get up, get moving, and stay hygienic. 

HABIT #3 ✅Do some stretches.

Chances are likely that your body could use some stretch work in the morning. When you stretch after waking up, you relieve any pain or tension that might’ve come about from your sleep time. Get that blood flow going in the morning and prepare for the day ahead!

HABIT #4 ✅Drink water. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

You were asleep for how many hours? Your body could use a refresher with some water. Not only does it benefit your physical needs, but it helps get things running for your brain. Imagine all the headaches you’ll avoid if you hydrate!

HABIT #5 ✅Check your calendar.
